Steam bending with encouragement

Wondering how the shape round is achieved… In the process of making each sieve and riddle the strips of ash wood are placed into a steam chest for a minimum of 3 hours. When ready the strips are then rolled around a heavy roller to form the finished shape. Initially they are clamped for several minutes which also involves some physical encouragement from the artisan (he sits on them) to achieve the required shape.
After several days they are then ready for the finishing touches and adding the copper metalwork.
