Sneeboer Planting Trowel ‘Old Dutch Style’ – 14 cm Ash Handle
This Old Dutch Style planting trowel from Sneeboer is the shorter version of Monty Don’s favourite trowel, a tool with real heritage, developed from traditional Dutch planting methods used for generations. We we’re pleased to see Monty using this very tool on BBB Gardeners’ World because it deserves the recognition.
With its distinctive heart-shaped blade, it works differently to a standard trowel. Instead of a scooping action, it is used in a more direct, chopping motion, quickly forming clean planting holes for bulbs, seedlings and small plants, especially in well prepared beds. It’s also proved effective for making larger planting holes when setting out veg. and plants.
The design reflects early 20th-century Dutch market gardening, where tools were created for speed and efficiency when planting at scale, a practical approach that still defines its use today.
The weight and balance help it drop cleanly into the soil, while the sharpened edges keep each cut precise and controlled.
Particularly effective when you need to plant quickly and with minimum effort.
How to Use: The way to use this Sneeboer trowel is totally different to the norm, instead of the usual scooping action, you use it the same way one would use an axe. The weight is heavy and the balance is different. Penetrate the soil (you need the weight) move the trowel forwards and backwards and you have a perfect planting hole.

Great Design
I watch Gardeners World and always liked the look of this tool. I hadn’t seen it in the shops so did a bit of research. Although you can by cheaper I am so pleased I invested in this product. It’s so well made and feels great when in use. Will definitely be going back for more. The service was excellent!

Superb garden implement
I had intended to purchase one of these Sneeboer trowels for some time, and eventually got round to doing so. Apart from being of top-quality manufacture, it is a very useful trowel for almost all work in the garden. The shape and sharp edge mean that it is equally good for setting bean seeds or making a larger hole for planting out other vegetables. As with most good things, it is not an inexpensive tool, but it will withstand much use and last for ever.

A brilliant trowel
The Sneerboer Trowel is worth every penny. Its super sharp blade makes planting and weeding so easy…..it even winkles out dandelion roots! A sturdy piece of kit and no fear of of bending when attacking deeper digging.

Beautiful Trowel
Bought as a gift, I was impressed with the quality of this trowel, lovely handle, beautiful shape, the trowel feels heavy enough to suggest it is of good quality but not so heavy that it would be difficult to use. Really impressed with the plastic free packaging and quick delivery.

What a beauty!
I purchased the trowel as a gift for my Mum and she was very happy,to say the least.
I ordered online from the US but decided to call the company to see if they could get the order to Mum on time for her birthday, they were lovely to talk with and assured me they would post the next day.Sure enough one day later the parcel arrived in good time for the surprise gift.
Wonderful business to deal with.
